Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) is a quick getaway from the bustling city life for you to find some peace and get closer to nature. Located in Kepong which is 20 kilometres away from the heart of Kuala Lumpur, it is known to be haven for nature lovers and cycling enthusiasts. FRIM has approved a number of mountain bike trails, ranging from easy to hard — based on the terrain and surroundings. You can also find other activities here including the famous canopy walkway, bird watching, camping and hiking.
What to bring?

- It is allowed to bring your own bicycles here if you want to save cost from renting a bike.
- Bring your own water of bottle so that you can stay hydrated as some of the trails do not have pit stops where you can buy refreshments.
- If you plan to mountain bike, bring along your own helmet so you can save up on helmet rental.

Inside the area, you can find a museum, ethno-botanic garden, souvenir store and an information centre. You can also easily find toilets and carparks as they are located in each zone of the area.

- If you plan to go mountain biking, make sure you wear your safety gears.
- The mountain bike trail can be quite dangerous for beginners as there are small rocks which you might bump into. Be sure to wear your helmet.
- Always make sure that you cycle on the trail, at the tarred road as a safety precaution.

- It is a great place to have a family day outing or bonding session with your friends. Although most of the people come here for cycling and to experience the canopy walk, you can also arrange a picnic session with your family or friends here.
- The entrance fee to FRIM for Malaysian citizen is RM1 per pax. For non-locals, it will cost you RM5 per pax.
- There are bicycle rentals here. For the first hour, the rental cost for a small bicycle is RM6 whereas the big bicycle will cost you RM8.
- Subsequent hours will be charged at RM2 per hour.
- If you are looking for something a bit more extreme, it is recommended to go hiking here in FRIM as the trail can be quite challenging.
