Situated in a reserve called Sungai Chiling Fish Sanctuary, the Sungai Chiling Waterfalls began as a research project ran by the Selangor State Fisheries Department. Its main purpose is to serve as a natural sanctuary to protect the Mahseer fish species. Located just at the foothill of Fraser’s Hill, this beautiful sanctuary attracts many visitors who are up for an adventure to explore nature. Do prepare to get yourself wet!
The entrance to Sungai Chiling Waterfalls is on a road headed from Kubu Baharu to Fraser Hill. If you love camping, there are also campsites and toilets available around for your convenience. Expect to get around by foot throughout your whole experience at Sungai Chiling Waterfalls are a lot to see throughout the whole adventure there.
The multi-tiered waterfall will come into view after about a 45 minutes up to an hour hike along a designated trail. There will be 6 river crossings tracks on the way to Sungai Chiling Waterfalls so just keep a safe pace, slow down and enjoy nature along these paths. Of course, you will need to always be cautious of your surrounding as water currents can get stronger on certain occasions or time of the day. Although the top tier and second tier of the waterfall is inaccessible, you will still get to experience it’s beauty and relax while taking a dip in it’s clear and cold waters at the base of the waterfall.

Besides trekking your way to the beautiful Chiling Waterfalls, a lot of people also choose to have picnics here at Sungai Chiling Waterfalls . Although there is a sign saying no food allowed there, a lot of visitors brought along snacks and beverages there. However, make sure to clean up after eating or drinking to keep the environment clean there. Apart from that, there is also a camping site if you like to experience camping by the river

So far driving is the most convenient way to get to the waterfall. Using navigation, you can enter coordinates 3°35’56.67”N 101°44’14.506”E or if you have WAZE, simply type in Sungai Chiling then you are well on your way there. To know that you are on the right route towards Sungai Chiling Waterfalls, you will pass by the Selangor Dam and to get to the waterfall and you will need to cross a steel bridge.
If you want to travel via public transportation, the Kuala Kubu Bharu KTM Station is the nearest train station situated to Chiling Waterfall. From there, you might need to rent your own transportation, preferably a four-wheel drive.

- The best time to start trekking is in the morning, from 8.00 am onwards when the site is open.
- Since you will be getting your feet wet most of the time, a suitable type of footwear with good grip is highly recommended.
- Besides that, it is also advisable to wear quick drying clothes for your comfort during trekking around the rivers.
- Another tip would be checking yourself out at the registration office upon your return.
- Be aware of the time if you are planning to explore the area as the last entry is at 3.00 PM. This is to avoid guests getting lost there when it’s near night time.
- It is highly recommended to check the weather earlier if you plan to make a trip to Sungai Chiling Waterfalls. The place will be closed for a few days after a heavy rainfall.
- A small deposit is also said to be charged on every plastic or bottle being brought into the sanctuary to reduce littering.
- Fishing is not allowed at the waterfalls so please do not try to attempt that there.
- From the base of Chiling Waterfalls, you can see a nearby cliff where you can take up for a deep dive!
- Additional charges are RM3 for every plastic bag or food container with food inside, RM4 per tent for camping fees and camping deposit will be RM50 to RM150 depending on size of group. These fees will be collected by the local rangers.
- If you wish to camp here, pack along your outdoor equipments and food. The campsite is near the entrance and you can enquire with the locals here.
