The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes Klang is a historic landmark known to Selangor which underwent a restoration a few years back. It has also expanded its building during the restoration to provide more facilities and space for worshippers. Wisma Lourdes which is a four storey building has been added to accommodate the increasing number of worshippers going to the Sunday school there.
According to history, Father Souhait, who was an architecture student, was given order to take care of the spiritual needs of the Catholic residents in Klang and its neighboring areas like Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor. He was the one who was in charge of purchasing the land where the church now stands. The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes Klang was established in 1900.
Father Souhait played a major role in designing the church building. The inspiration of his design for the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes Klang came from the pilgrimage church located in Lourdes, France. The essence of medieval age era style can be seen in the designs of this church as Gothic architecture was a sign of expression at that period of time. Due to its impressive design, it is also one of the most photographed landmarks in Selangor.
Another attraction will be the window panel displayed at the chapel at Wisma Lourdes located within the area of Church of Our Lady of Lourdes Klang. It was said that a mysterious figure appeared at the window panel of the Sime Darby Medical Centre and many claimed that it was Virgin Mary. It was then an agreement was achieved in between the medical centre and the church party. The window panel was carefully removed and placed at Wisma Lourdes.
