Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque is Selangor’s state mosque. Situated in Shah Alam, this mosque was commissioned by Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah in 1974. This is Malaysia’s largest mosque and second largest mosque in Southeast Asia after Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, Indonesia. It took approximately 6 years to complete the construction of this beautiful religious site for Muslims.
One of the main features of the Blue Mosque would be the huge blue and silver dome. The dome height is 350 feet with a diameter of 168 feet. It’s 4 minarets, with each being 460 feet above ground level, was once featured in the Guinness Book of Records for being the tallest minarets before being surpassed by the Hassan II Mosque.

You can get there via public transportation such as taxi and by taking the Komuter train from Kuala Lumpur to Shah Alam. If you own a rental vehicle, simple drive there with the help of your GPS and there will be a parking space provided in the mosque’s area. - As this is a sacred ground, one is advised to dress appropriately and behave in an appropriate manner. Robes are available there as well for those who need them.
- There are also guided tours for those who want to know more about the mosque so one can actually plan in advance and enquire with helpers at the mosque for more details.
- Take note of the opening hours as well as the mosque will also be closed for prayers during certain times every day.

- The mosque will be particularly crowded every Friday from 12pm - 2pm as this is the time where local Muslim visitors come to perform the Friday prayers.
- If you bring children along, be sure that you look after them so they will not interrupt other visitors who are praying.
- The mosque is open daily for Muslims to perform their prayers. If you are a traveller who wishes to visit here, come in the morning around 10.00 am onwards.
- The administration office operates only from Monday to Friday with breaks; from 8.00 am - 1.00 pm and reopens 2.00 pm - 5.00 pm (except for Fridays, the office is closed from 12.15 pm and reopens at 2.45 pm).
