Built by King Karangasem in 1909 for his family, this palace is surrounded with huge pools. Known among the locals as Taman Soekasada Ujung, the architecture of the palace is influenced by both Balinese and Dutch concept, and you can’t find anything similar like this in Bali. In 1963, it was almost completely destroyed by the eruption of Bali’s iconic volcano mountain, Mount Agung and it was damaged during a 1979 earthquake. The recovery effort took place to repair the preserved heritage site which also resulted to a revamp in the existing landscape. Although the greatness was not the same, you can still enjoy the epoch from the current moment as most of it were managed to be restored to its former glory.
It has three large pools filled with fishes and the main building named Gili Bale is located on the middle pool, connected by two bridges. This palace was used first by King Karangasem as relaxing place and to entertain royalties and rich men who visited the Kingdom of Karangasem. There is a spot here where you have to climb up the stairs to see the views of entire palace, the sea, green forests and the infamous Mount Agung. Surrounding the palace grounds is a well maintained park with clean space and green grass that you can sit and have a pleasant time with your loved ones.
