Located in between Jalan Telok Wanjah and Jalan Stadium, this landmark of Alor Setar was built back in 1968 - making this Siamese style temple one of the biggest and oldest Buddhist temples in Alor Setar. Every year during Vesak Day and full moon day in the month of May, the temple will be packed with devotees making their prayers and wishes. This will be an exciting experience not to miss during your trip.
With features influenced by Thai elements and Chinese designs, the temple architecture makes the surrounding strikingly bold to every visitor. From here, you can also get the clear view of Menara Alor Setar as this temple is also located at capital prime roundabout. The new grand entrance of this temple also makes worthy photos.

If you are in a mood for shopping, head yourself to morning market in Teluk Wanjah located less than 300 metres away from this temple. You can find food and fresh produce as well as other local condiments. It only opens until 12pm. Otherwise, continue sightseeing to Alor Setar Tower (Menara Alor Setar) which is located 10 minutes away by foot. Don’t forget to go up and check out the view from its observation deck!

Wat Nikrodharam can be easily accessed from city centre of Alor Setar. It’s a walking distance of 10 minutes from Alor Setar iconic building, Menara Alor Setar.

- There are some stray dogs around this area. But don’t worry they won’t bite you as long as you don’t hurt them! Be kind to the animals.
- Expect to do some walking around the temples to explore the details. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes.
- It is best to visit this temple during the day time.
- Don’t forget to explore some of the significant figures known to this temple such as Phra Phrom, Kuan Yin and Phra Sivali as well as the Ubosot shrine.
- Until today, the temple is being used as the usual prayer spot for the locals. While visiting, be mindful of your children and not to disturb others while they are praying.
- Although it is a lively experience to visit this temple during annual celebrations such as the Vesak Day, it might be too crowded. If you prefer a free and easy trip, opt to go here on weekday mornings at 8am and take a relaxing stroll.
