Visitors will enjoy this public library’s urban facilities as it offers a great ambience for education, leisure, and even relaxation. The first library@orchard in 1999 was located at Ngee Ann City shopping mall. Designed to cater to young adults aged 18-35 years old, it was the first lifestyle library as well as the first library to be located in Singapore city centre.
In 2014, library@orchard shifted to its new home in the Orchard Gateway shopping centre, specifically on the 3rd and 4th level. Principles of Design Thinking were incorporated in its architectural and functional development, with conceptualisation help from The National Library Board and Singapore Polytechnic. It also made history as the first double-storey mall library to be built.
The library has a large collection of fiction and non-fiction books alike, with a focus on lifestyle, design and applied arts. Divided into The Studio and The Loft, the layout itself is conducive for a reflective mood while leafing through books in a cool environment. Other unique features of the library include 4 Book Trees, 3 programme zones and fortnightly community learning sessions.
