Besides enjoying thrilling rides and the scenery at Sentosa Island, this island resort also has many hidden historical gems waiting to be discovered. Embark on a self-guided journey to learn parts of Singapore’s history with specially curated walking trails featuring the historical Fort Siloso!
Fort Siloso was built in the 19th Century as a defence measure by the British to protect the island from sea invasion. However, the Fort’s guns were turned towards the mainland when Japanese forces invaded Singapore from north Malaya during World War II. Today, it is an important historical monument that stood the tests of time. This preserved coastal fort is proudly home to WWII memorabilia and still features military remains.
Choose from three different trails to embark, either the Siloso Trail, Gun Trail or Heritage Trail. Skip the Fort Siloso Skywalk and use the Siloso Trail which runs underneath the Skywalk to reach the fort instead. Get your heart racing by ascending the hill from the base of the tower to Fort Siloso.
Explore Singapore in its World War II days with the Heritage Trail. The trail features important historical landmarks of Fort Siloso, with the route from Battery Command Post, to Fort Siloso Square-Casemates, Tunnel B Complex, 6-Inch Gun Battery, Engine Room, Store, and Surrender Chambers. At the Surrender Chambers, you are in for a historical class with visual and sound effects depicting the Japanese invasion up to their eventual surrender towards the end of WWII.
On the Gun Trail, visitors could look at the guns that are placed within the fort. The route also features landmarks such as Barracks and Officers’ Mess and the Guard’s Bungalow. Whether you choose to embark on the Siloso Trail, Heritage Trail, Gun Trail, or a customised walking trail of your own, the fort promises an interactive experience through six interactive zones. Remember to leave a message on the wall of poppies before leaving the area!
