Your journey will begin as early as 1.30 am or 2.00 am where your tour guide will pick up you up at your hotel. Once you reach the base in Toya Bungkah Village, there will be a short safety briefing by your guide. Sunrise trekking to Mount Batur is the preferred activity among travellers and adventure seekers.
Under millions of stars, your pitch black journey will start after the briefing which will usually be around 3.30 am. The first section to start your trekking will be fairly bushes, flat and wide where hikers usually go on with fast pace. It will take roughly 30 minutes to pass this section.
The second phase will become steeper to climb and climbers pace will usually be slower. The final section to reach the summit will become tougher to climb. With average pace, you shall reach the summit before 6.00 am. Don’t be surprised if you ask your guide how many times that he has climbed the mountain. - Mount Batur’s height is approximately 1,717 meters above sea level. The summit will be really cold so prepare yourself a warm clothing to keep you comfortable throughout the trekking.
- The Hindus believe that pregnant women and women on their menstruation period are not allowed to climb this volcano mountain due to religious reasons.
- If possible, bring some extra cash to tip your nice guide or your driver. A friendly gesture goes a long way for them.
- Monkeys can be found here. Stay away from them if you wish not to share your food or water as they can get aggressive too!
- The washroom is located at the base. Remember to use the facility before starting your trek to Mount Batur.
