Gunung Datuk is located in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan. The highest point of this mountain is around 2900 ft. It is one of the many favorite places for nature lovers and adventure seekers to do some exercise or relaxing during their weekend. It holds many treasures of the natural tropical rainforests. Local people believed that long time ago, this mountain used to be a place where the West Sumatrian people selected Datuk Perpatih Nan Sebatang as their leader. There are also footprints at the summit which represent the legendary warrior called Hang Tuah.
The path is pretty well defined all the way except at the very beginning. Strips of red and white or yellow plastic tape are tied around branches periodically to let you know you are on the right track.
From the car park you descent a path to a stream, cross the bridge and find the correct trail. The trail starts to climb immediately and the first hour or so is a fairly brutal ascent over twisted tree roots, rocks and dirt. There are also plenty of unusual looking mushrooms and fungus growth feasting on rotting trees. Eventually, you will arrive at an open area which a number of steel ladders enables you to climb up the massive boulders which dominate the peak of the mountain.

Be sure to check with the administration office to see the traffic of people hiking on that day. You are also required to register your name before climbing. We advise you to start climbing before 12:00 pm as it gets pretty dangerous to climb during the evening. Also be wary of the local taxi drivers especially those at the Tampin train station. Their scam includes making an advanced pickup agreement with you, then ask somebody else to pick you up, and they will make a claim from you for breaking the agreement.
