The Malacca Sultanate Palace was built in 1984 and it officially became a cultural museum in 1986. It was opened by former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Inside the museum, you can find more than 1,300 of the Malaccan Malay Sultanate’s history and culture heritage including artefacts, prints, photographs and detailed drawings.
It is a three-storey museum and has eight chambers that are divided for tourists to get better understanding. You can see a variety of weapons, decorative arts, traditional costumes, brassware, jewellery, gifts, audience hall and more. If you are into folklore, there are also three galleries that describes the famous legends of Malaccan warriors including Hang Tuah and Hang Jebat. There are gardens surrounding the museum that the royal family once used. The fountains of the garden is still operational and it looks absolutely beautiful, especially in the evening. The garden is now opened for tourists to enjoy fresh air and appreciate the well maintained beauty that has been around the museum for years.

The best way to get here is by car or taxi. There are no busses to get to the museum. You can also take the trishaw here as it is way more convenient.

- When you come here, make sure you check out the secret garden. The beautiful setting would be a great place for photos too.
- You cannot enter this place without permission from the guards.
- Before entering, you must buy the tickets at the ticketing counter and show them upon entering.
- You have to take off your shoes as you enter because the place is like an old Malay house. It is a custom for Malays to not wear shoes in their houses.
- There are many interesting artefacts and figurine for you to look and study. Make sure you pay close attention to the very useful information.
