What to expect?
What to expect?
Mount Merapi is also famous for outdoor activities such as hiking but if you are not in the mood for it, explore this volcanic mountain with another option by going on a lava tour with an offroad vehicle. First is through the short route, then there’s a medium length route, a long route and lastly the sunrise route. The route will typically start from the base of your hotel and ends with Kalikuning wet track.
There is not much difference with the short and medium route. The only place you will not be visiting is Petilasan Mbah Marijan where there are exhibits of the volcano eruption victims’ personal belongings such as cars, motorbikes and others. Along the way you will be visiting the alien stone and the bunker. Alien stone was once hurdled up during massive eruption and it is not hard to notice due to the enormous size.
It is interesting and heartfelt as you learn the history behind it. Two people died inside the bunker during 2006 eruption when they tried to save themselves but the ashes were too thick and hot for them to survive. For the long route, one additional place to visit is the tomb. If you wish to look at the mesmerizing view of the sun rising in the morning, try the sunrise route. To enjoy it of course, you will start to depart from the base as early as 4.30 am.
