For a memorable journey in Yogyakarta, you can make a trip and drive for an hour from the center of Yogyakarta to Gunung Kidul to try out this unique activity in Goa Jomblang. Also known as the Jomblang Cave, the actual cave is made up of three parts. The first is a large huge sinkhole that was formed by the roof of the cave collapsing. The second part of the cave is a long tunnel and the final part is Goa Grubog or also known as the central cave. Travellers can choose to explore around the areas with a guide.
Located in Semanu, Goa Jomblang is a type of vertical cave known as Collapse Doline which is formed from the collapse of the ground to the bottom of the earth along with the vegetation centuries ago. The ruins of that natural events eventually form a sinkhole or gaping source, which is in Javanese called Luweng. Because it has quite a large opening at approximately 50 meters, the mouth of Goa Jomblang is often called by Luweng Jomblang.
Deep down in Goa Jomblang, you will be treated to incredible views. If at the top of this cave you can only watch the expanse of karst hills and bare teak trees, at the base of Goa Jomblang you will see the fertile and vast expanse of green forest which offers a totally different scenery. Ranging from shrubs, ferns, various types of moss to huge trees, the vegetation presents a heavenly atmosphere for its explorers, which is really much in contrast to the life above the ground. The adventure in Jomblang Cave does not stop at the bottom of the cave as travellers can also choose to explore further down to Luweng Grubug.
