Besides having the ability to watch the sunset and sunrise, the view from the famous Gunung Kidul in Yogyakarta is also spectacular. The hiking path up to the peak of this ancient volcano will lead to an amazing 360 degree view of nature. It has two peaks, namely western and eastern peak with a caldera in the center.

- Check the weather before deciding to hike Gunung Kidul.
- At the top, hikers will find a small flat area to view the hill’s vast green plantation. However, there is no safety fencing around that flat piece of ground so remember to be careful and not to walk too near to the edges.

- The hiking is a beginner level hiking to reach the peak so don't be scared. Reward is amazing view of nature.
- There are 5 stations (resting spots) and each of the stations offers an impressive view, particularly the first and the final station. They are best for sunrise and sunset view.
- The twinkling of the stars and sparkling of the lamps in distance becomes a romantic moment for those who wish to have camping activity in Gunung Kidul area.
- There are camp areas up there to spend the night there if you want, but don't forget to bring your outdoor equipments.
- Recommended time to go hiking will be either early in the morning to catch the beautiful scenery of sunrise or later in the afternoon for sunset.
- If you cannot hike to the peak, you can stop at any of the stations but you will be missing the summit's beautiful view!
- You don’t actually need a guide to reach Nglanggeran summit as there are many direction boards.
