Located in the Hakka Tin Miners Club building at the very heart of old town Ipoh, Han Chin Pet Soo Museum is a unique museum exhibition; showcasing the shadowy dealings and vices inside the miners club as well as the story of the Hakka people and the tin mining industry. It is also located near to the famous Concubine Lane.
You’ll feel as if you’ve stepped back into time as the museum houses a vast collection of furniture and artifacts from the time period. There are also mannequins and exhibitions highlighting the four evils at the time: Opium, Gambling, Prostitution and the Triads. The club was a mysterious place, with entry only for VIP’s and members of the club. That tradition somewhat remains with appointment-only invitations to join the free group tour of the museum.
It has been restored by the operator who currently manages it, Ipoh World, to what it once looked like back in the day. These go even so far to include rooms which have been restored to what they looked like in the 1930s and 1960s era. A visit to the museum is a must on your itinerary to Ipoh as it is a one time experience to get a glimpse into the lives of these tin miners.
