Unlike other volcanoes, the summit of Tangkuban Perahu is elongated and looks like an upside down ship which gave the name ‘perahu’, literally translated as ship. There is also a plantation expanse on the slopes, which makes you want to linger around to enjoy its beauty. This famous tourism attraction in Bandung is also a good location for pre-wedding photoshoot as well as a favourite spot for commercials or travelogue videos.
Travellers can find nine active craters within the vicinity of Mount Tangkuban Perahu, namely Ratu Crater, Upas Crater, Domas Crater, Ecoma Crater, Jurig Crater, Siluman Crater, Baru Crater, Lanang Crater, Jarian Crater and Pangguyangan Badak Crater. - It is believed that the water from the hot springs around Mount Tangkuban Perahu can be used to cure skin diseases and in other hot springs, you can use the water to boil some eggs!
- Use a mask or cover your nose with a handkerchief in case you can’t stand the smell of the sulphur.
- It is advisable to wear a jacket or thick clothing because the temperature is quite cold.
- Wear comfortable shoes as you need to hike up and the route can get slippery.
- Entrance ticket varies on weekdays and weekends. Going here on weekdays is a lot cheaper.
- Ticket prices for locals are at IDR 20,000 (weekdays) / IDR 30,000 (weekends) specifically.
- Ticket prices for foreigners are at IDR 200,000 (weekdays) / IDR 300,000 (weekends) specifically.
- There is a parking space provided if you bring your own vehicle. However, do note that the parking charges also vary for locals and foreigners.
- If you choose to drive on your own, there are 2 routes for you to reach here: 1) Exit the Pasteur toll gate leading to Dr. Djunjunan - Pasirkaliki - Sukajadi - Setiabudi - Lembang - Mount Tangkuban Perahu, or 2) Exit Padalarang toll gate towards Cimahi - turn left towards Colonel Masturi Road - until T-junction of Lembang Highway, turn left - Mount Tangkuban Perahu. By bus from Terminal Leuwi Panjang (Bandung) - take a bus majoring Bandung-Indramayu - down at the junction of the gate of Mount Tangkuban Perahu.
- From Hall Station (Bandung) - take an angkot majoring in Hall-Lembang Station - get off at the intersection (Lembang - Maribaya - Tangkuban Perahu) - take the angkot Lembang-Cikole - down at the edge of the crater of Mount Tangkuban Perahu.
