Merdeka Square Jakarta is a square located right in the center of Jakarta’s city center. Merdeka is an Indonesian word for ‘Independence’. Spanning over 185 acres including the garden, Merdeka Square is divided into two zones, specifically Medan Merdeka Park and The Grand Space. The square is often frequent by local teenagers and families, especially during the weekends for sightseeing, photography, picnics and even kite flying.
Medan Merdeka Park is where visitors get to enjoy the view of beautiful large trees, fountains and reflecting ponds. The Grand Space, like the name itself, is a huge area where you will have the best view of MONAS, the National Monument of Indonesia. Consisting of grass fields, it is literally a space with no trees but there’s a central garden with decorative plants and colourful flowers for you to relax with a view.
The huge Merdeka Square Jakarta park also comes with four main parks - West, North, South and East. Each of it will have a different way to amaze the visitors. For example, in West Merdeka Park is where the dancing illuminated fountain is located. South Merdeka Park is where a flag bearing statue is placed. To see a tunnel that leads to the National Monument and reflecting ponds, check out the North and East Park.
