Known as the mini version of the Niagara Falls, Curug Malela Waterfall is a beautiful waterfall located in the Cicadas Village in Bandung. Standing at 70 metres in height and 50 metres in width, the Malela Waterfall is divided into 5 lanes with its main source of water coming from the north of the Kendeng Mountain.
Although not as majestic as the real Niagara Falls, the Curug Malela Waterfall is still really huge as compared to other waterfalls within the West Java region. The hike to the waterfall is yet another attraction as the breathtaking sunrise view is something you would not want to miss during your trip here.

Getting around
Curug Malela Waterfall is reachable within a 3-hour drive from downtown Bandung. The waterfall is situated in a remote area and if you are intending to drive there, please be prepared to go through a real tough journey. Your exit will be at Desa Cicadas. The road to access to the waterfall area is only accessible via four-wheel drive so you might need to rent one or get a private tour guide with driver to take you here.

- To start hiking, you can find the path from the entrance of Curug Malela waterfall. It is advisable to hike the waterfall with a local guide.
- If you wish to hike, start your trip early in the morning so you can catch the sunrise. However, if you are just here for a visit, you can come here at any time before it gets dark.
- Should you wish to camp here, you can also set up your own tent at the base of the waterfall. It is fun to experience staying here in the outdoors for a night, especially when you are coming in groups.
- Be extra careful during rainy seasons as the trekking paths can become very slippery so it is still best to gear up on anti slip foot wears when you are there.
- Not advisable to visit the waterfall alone because as much as it is a tourist attraction, it is still lacking in many infrastructures and basic facilities.
- Do not swim in the waterfall as it is very dangerous with the gushing water coming from above but do be prepared to be wet as the hike along the waterfall will leave you slightly drenched.
- If you have no idea on where to start for this trip to the waterfall, there are also organized trips by local organisations to Curug Malela.
- It is also recommended to go to the waterfall during the dry season which is during April and October where the flow of the water is at its most natural state.
- There are no food stalls along the way to the waterfall so it is advisable to pack your own food and drinks.
- The nearest place you can get food or beverage is at Cicadas Village which is the nearest village situated to Curug Malela.
