It depends on the concentration of sulfur and the temperature or the oxidation state. Not like any other crater, Kawah Putih Lake has white sand which makes it even more beautiful to look at and great spot for photography enthusiasts.
Kawah Putih Lake is located 2430 meters above sea level so you can expect the local climate to be quite chilly. The surrounding area is heavily forested and the smell of sulfur is strong. Nonetheless, after going through a crazy journey here, you will find a beautiful view and it will all be worth it. So if you enjoy an exciting mountain trail to experience seeing the acidic lake up close, Kawah Putih Lake is a location you should consider visiting while you are in Bandung.
Here’s an interesting fact about Kawah Putih Lake; the locals here used to say that this crater is haunted because there isn’t any sights of animals can be found here, not even birds flying across the lake! However, a botanist from Germany has proven that the myth was untrue after some researches were done. The animals and plants cannot handle the acidity of the lake, so that’s why you will not find any wildlife sightings here despite being located in the mountains.
