It’s easy to reach the Kinabalu Park Entrance from Kota Kinabalu. Buses leave every morning from the Kota Kinabalu North Bus Terminal in Inanam. The journey takes 1-2 hours and costs RM 10 - RM 15. If you’re used to left-hand side driving, you could also get a car from hire in Kota Kinabalu Airport. Rates are negotiable so check out which company can give you the best offer. Car rentals is usually best for a trip of 4 pax and above.

- Entrance fees to the park are at RM 1 and RM 3 for Malaysians while non-Malaysians pay RM 10 and RM 15 for children and adults respectively.
- To climb Mount Kinabalu, there is a separate charge of RM 120 and RM 7 for insurance in addition to the park entrance fees.
- If you’re taking the bus from Kota Kinabalu to the park entrance, board the buses that leave before 8am to catch some clear views of Mount Kinabalu out the left hand side of the bus.
- Only 195 climbers are permitted in a day to climb Mount Kinabalu so make your bookings in advance.
- It is best to spend a day or two in Kinabalu Park by choosing any of the accommodations. Getting a full tour package complete with accommodation, guide and other facilities could be relatively cheaper than making self-arrangements for the trip.
