"You have not seen Sabah if you have not visited Monsopiad" are the words of Roger Crowhurst, an international adventure journalist. The Monsopiad Cultural Village is located about 30 minutes from Kota Kinabalu, right by the Penampang River. It’s primary commitment is towards the preservation of Kadazan culture and its various unique traditions. The name itself comes from an ancient warrior, Monsopiad, who fought bravely and collected 42 heads from enemy warriors.
The cooking course teaches you how to work with ingredients such as pork, chicken and fish to create authentic Penampang Kadazan style food. The dishes are seasonal but do include basung, hinava (said to be a Dusun version of sashimi), puku do nangko and sup manuk lihing.
