If you’re looking for more than an island adventure at Lankayan, why not go and experience the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre which is located nearby Sandakan. At the Sepilok centre, you can get up close and personal with orangutans, macaques and other wild animals such as elephants and crocodiles. The Sepilok Nature Resort is also located less than 5 minutes away from the Sepilok centre if you wish to stay for longer.

The only way to get to Lankayan Island is via speedboat that departs from Sandakan Yacht Club Jetty. From the jetty, the journey takes around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on the sea conditions.

- It is not possible for you to do a day trip here. Visitors are required to stay for at least one night in Lankayan Island.
- There is a conservation fee of RM25 that goes towards funding the Sugud Islands Marine Conservation Area.
- The ideal time to visit Lankayan Island is during the dive season which runs from March to May.
- Since there is only one resort on the island, the price to stay on Lankayan Island is not as cheap compared to the other islands in Malaysia.
- Avoid coming to Lankayan Island during November to February as it is the monsoon season.
- If you wish to stay at Lankayan Island Dive Resort, try choosing the chalets after #20 or the ones that are located furthest away from the clubhouse and dining hall for maximum privacy.
- You will need at least a 3D2N package if you intend to make the most of a diving trip here.
- Since the boat from Sandakan to Lankayan Island leaves early in the morning, it is advised that you stay in Sandakan overnight before taking your boat.
- If you are staying at the popular Lankayan Island Dive Resort, the boat ride to this island is included as a part of your reservation.
