What to expect?

Kitesurfing is the art of harnessing the power of the wind using a kite and a board to propel yourself across the surface of the water. It isn’t actual surfing as you’re using the wind instead of the waves. Balok is a prime location for kitesurfing in Malaysia as it has flat waters and winds during monsoon season that are ideal for the sport.
You simply paddle up to the sea as you normally would and let the wind power take care of the rest using the kite you bring with you. It’s an all year event as the winds are fairly constant, but the monsoon seasons are best as winds will go above 15 knots.
It’s a social sport and great for exercise as you’ll use your full body during a kitesurfing session. For those just beginning, lessons will help you build confidence till you’re ready to head out to the waters and kitesurf your brains out!

Safety tips
Safety tips
- Pay close attention to the safety briefing on the ground before going for your kitesurfing activity. Make sure you clear any of the doubts you have with your instructors before attempting the activity.
- Wear your life jacket at all times and make sure it is securely fastened. If you were not given a life jacket, insist for it.
- Be aware of other kite surfers and people enjoying the beach during your session. The tensioned lines on kiteboard are sharp and can be very dangerous.
Insiders’ tips
Insiders’ tips
- December to February is the best season for kitesurfing as the monsoon brings in winds of about 15 - 20 knots.
- Check the weather forecasts and wind statistics online before deciding on a good date to kitesurf here in Balok Beach.
- Kitesurfing isn’t as developed as a sport in Malaysia compared to other countries so you won’t have to worry about ‘sharing’ the beach with other kitesurfers.
