Get to know the history and culture of the different provinces in West Sumatera particularly the Minangkabau and Mentawai ethnics. Although more than 80% of the artifacts has been destroyed during the previous earthquake, the museum still manages to preserve many of its prized possessions and some of the aftermath of the earthquake are still being displayed at the museum.
Museum Adityawarman is also known as the State Museum of West Sumatera and it is not hard to find as it is sited in the city centre of Padang. Since the museum is located within the city of Padang, getting there should not be difficult. There are various public transportations available to assist tourists to get there and most convenient is by bus. You can also choose to drive there by navigating on your own and it should not be a problem if you follow the directions closely.

- Peak hours are usually in the morning so if you would like to avoid the tourist crowd, you can opt to visit after 12pm.
- When you are there, there might be locals who will want to take a chance to talk to you about the history of the museum and then demand for payment at the end of the journey there. Do ask them in advance whether this requires payment before you proceed with their explanation. Or else, politely decline their service and move on with your own itinerary there.
- If you are planning a trip there during Ramadhan month or Hari Raya, time of operation might differ due to the festivities so do ask in advance before you head over.
