For history buffs or cultural explorer, Minangkabau Documentation and Information Center is the place where you can learn some great insights on the unique ethnic of Minangkabau in Padang. Translated into Indonesian language as Pusat Dokumentasi dan Informasi Kebudayaan Minangkabau, here is where you can find well kept artifacts related to the culture so it is literally a feast on the eyes while you are there.
The building itself is already a state of the art as it truly represents the traditional Minangkabau architecture. The building itself is made out of wood which is a typical material for building the Minangkabau styled ‘Rumah Gadang’ as the locals call it. Here is where the collection of historical artifacts are displayed. Tourists get to see them up close but it is not advisable to touch them as these items are all precious and has been carefully preserved up until now.
Then, head towards Minang Village located inside the Minangkabau Documentation and Information Center. - Most of the areas are filled with historical artifacts. Some of the items are not kept in cupboards or cabinets so you might just knock them over easily. Be careful and keep an eye on your children.

- Noon is usually a bit crowded as this is the peak time for visitors to come. If you are not keen with crowds, you can choose to visit the center early in the morning or after after 3.00 pm.
- Besides touring the place, tourists can also rent and try on the traditional Minangkabau costumes here for IDR 25,000 per person and have their photos taken so do not miss out on this opportunity while you are there.
- Minangkabau Documentation and Information Center houses a lot of artifacts so visitors might get a little confused by just looking at them. There are explanations about these artifacts but some of them might not be very well explained in English. Ask around for staffs if you are unsure or hire a local guide instead.
