Open to the public since the early nineties, the Miri City Fan Park is a 26-acre urban complex filled with leisure facilities such as themed gardens, a modern digital library, an amphitheatre and a public swimming pool. Located nearby some of known Miri’s cultural, sports and educational hubs, it has earned its reputation as a friendly park visited by many of the locals especially family.
The main gardens in the park are the Islamic Garden, Garden of Vision, Chinese Garden and Health Garden. These areas are great for a romantic walk in the evening with your partner or family. The urban concept of public-friendly facilities and their designs have enabled Miri City Fan Park to be recognized as the country’s best landscaped city park back in 2001.
The Fan Park is an ideal place for you to just stroll around, relax and enjoy the peaceful landscape. Families with young children will appreciate the multiple activities that can be carried out here. The park also has murals and statues all over that showcase the history of Malaysia. Plus, it’s a great social meeting point to interact with locals from Miri as they frequent the park every day and even more on weekends.

You can head up to Canada Hill, or known to the locals as Bukit Telaga Minyak which is just a 10-minute drive away from the Miri City Fan Park. On the top of this hill you can view the Grand Old Lady: the first drilled oil well in Miri that has been around since 1910. In its ground, you can visit the historical monuments and a Petroleum Museum. Canada Hill is also a nice place for a quick jog in the evening and sightseeing as you can get a pretty good view of Miri from the top here, especially during sunset.

Being a public park, there isn’t much you can physically bring back from the park other. A camera is necessary for you to bring here as there are plenty of areas for you to take great photos to share with your friends and families back home.

Getting around
You can easily use a ride-sharing service to reach Miri City Fan Park. Public bus services are available but it’s best to ask the driver if he is heading to the Fan Park in the first place. Another option is to hire a taxi. They use fixed fares here in Miri so make sure you negotiate your price accordingly before getting into the taxi! It’s pretty much easy to get a taxi here as it is located near town area.

- Do not worry if you can’t come here during daytime. Visiting at night is its own unique experience as you can view the beautiful lights throughout the park.
- If you’re coming with kids try to bring some bread or crumbs for the children to feed the carps in the surrounding pond as it’ll be a unique experience for them.
- Try a Miri food experience! Take the opportunity to explore the unique food stalls near Miri City Fan Park that serve BBQ food and other local dishes.
- Weekends are slightly more crowded as plenty of locals come over to the park to spend time with their families.
- The Miri Public Swimming Pool is only open from 9am to 9pm on Tuesdays to Saturdays and from 9am to 7pm on Sundays.
- If you are driving, there is an available parking space facilitated in the park area.
