Located within the bounds of the Mulu National Park, here you can find the Pinnacles, a unique collection of razor-sharp limestone formations that rise up to nearly 45 metres in the air. The hiking trail that leads to the Pinnacles is also one of the well trodden trails in the park.
The Pinnacles Trek is usually carried out as a 3 day 2 night activity. It begins with a fun boat trip - where sometimes you might have to get out and help the boatmen push the boat through the shallow waters of the Melinau River! An hour or two later you’ll arrive at Kuala Berar. You’ll then carry out a 2 to 3 hour hike through flat forest ground to Base Camp 5, where you will lodge for the night before and after your hike. The crystal clear waters of the Melinau River also run in front of the base camp and is ideal for a quick dip. Be sure to try it!
The intense climb begins in the following morning, with the first kilometre or so up a gradient so steep that you need ladders to climb it! Even though the trail is only 2.4km long, it rises over 1200m in elevation. The final section to the top is nearly vertical and will test your limits. However, once you reach the top, you will be greeted with a stunning view of the Pinnacles and surrounding rock formations. The breathtaking view is also unique to Miri itself. After some rest and photo sessions, you can begin your hike down towards base camp where you will be free and feel even more accomplished after a challenging hike.
